After graduating from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of Middle East Technical University (METU), she began her career at the Directorate General of Markets and Fund Management of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye.

In 1995 she transferred to the Istanbul Gold Exchange to take part in its establishment. She worked in the Exchange’s Trading and Settlement Department and was involved in establishing the Futures and Options Market, Türkiye’s first futures market, which also operated within the Exchange.

In early 2002 she began working on Corporate Governance, which was then still a very new concept in Türkiye. In 2003 she joined “İyi Şirket” Danışmanlık A.Ş. as a senior consultant. She prepared research reports in the field of Corporate Governance. Through her reports on companies in the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE, now Borsa Istanbul) 30, 50 and 100 indices, she drew attention to weaknesses in Türkiye’s Corporate Governance practices. She attended companies’ general assemblies and, through her work on general assemblies, prepared “Alert Voting” reports for investors. By engaging with domestic and foreign investors, she researched the problems investors face in Türkiye. At “İyi Şirket” Danışmanlık, she provided consultancy to many organizations, including Anadolu Efes, Doğan Holding, Doğan Yayın Holding, Denizbank, Zorlu Enerji, Bank Asya, Vestel Elektronik, Park Elektrik, Ceytaş Madencilik, Petrol Ofisi, Hürriyet Gazetecilik, Vestel Beyaz Eşya and the TEMA Foundation. She worked on developing corporate governance practices in family businesses. During the same period, Aytekin served on the board of directors of Tamek Gıda A.Ş. for two and a half years. Also during this period, she served as the Türkiye representative of ISS – Institutional Shareholder Services (then part of RiskMetrics Group), known internationally for its Corporate Governance ratings and practices. She worked toward Turkish companies obtaining corporate governance ratings and the launch of the ISE Corporate Governance Index.

At KRYS, she worked not only with publicly traded companies but also with privately held companies and SMEs. In addition to Corporate Governance and Family Business practices, she worked on the institutionalization of companies and on improving the quality of their management. She developed a Corporate Governance Methodology for privately held companies and SMEs. Her articles and columns on her work have appeared in various newspapers, and she has taken part as a panelist at conferences. She prepared a “Corporate Governance Analysis Report” on companies traded on the ISE.

In September 2008, Aytekin founded Solaris Danışmanlık. Having provided consultancy to many companies in nearly 20 sectors to date, particularly construction, food, maritime, pharmaceuticals, energy, banking and textiles, Aytekin also serves as an advisor to Sabancı University’s “Independent Women Directors Project.” Belgin Aytekin is currently Head of Advisory at PH Sworn-in CPA and Audit Inc.
